Code of Conduct

ISL Parent Code Of Conduct

The essential elements of character-building and ethics in sports are embodied in the concept of sportsmanship and six core principles: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and good citizenship. I therefore agree:

  1. I will remember that children participate to have fun and that the meet is for youth, not adults.

  2. I will learn the ISL Rules and its Mission Statement (see http://www.irvineswimleague.org/).

  3. I will be a positive role model for all children and demonstrate positive support for the swimmer, coaches, officials and other parents.

  4. I will demand that my child treat other swimmers, coaches, officials and parents with respect regardless of race, creed, color, sex or ability.

  5. I will teach my child that doing one’s best is more important than winning.

  6. I will emphasize skill development and practices and how they benefit my child over winning.

  7. I will respect the officials and their authority during meets and will never question, discuss, or confront coaches at the meet, and will take time to speak with coaches at an agreed upon time and place.

Disciplinary Procedures In the event of unacceptable behavior, attempts will be made to redirect the behavior through personal conferencing with the Bluefins Board and the parent or guardian.

  1. Continued unacceptable behavior will necessitate a meeting with the swimmer, the swimmer’s parent or guardians, the head coach and a member of the Board of Directors of the Deerfield Bluefins swim team.

  2. The final decision on disciplinary action will be taken by the Board of Directors of the Deerfield Bluefins swim team and may take the form of an informal reprimand, removal from practice and/or meets for a period of time, exclusion from social events, or removal from the team.

Parent are representing your swimmer and your family. We need parents to be role models of positive influence within the team and the community. Please sign below acknowledging that you have read, understand, and agree to abide by the above, and represent both spouses if married.
